Do You Want to be a Bee or a Fly?

The most important person in your life journey is you because you cannot proceed further without you. The goal, beauty, and happiness of this journey are based on your personal perspectives, attitudes, and priorities. Your attitudes and perspectives are the speckles that you wear, and you will see the way you have colored them with your expectations and experiences in your life. If you wear yellow glass, you will always see everything yellow, including yourself. Therefore, our life perspectives are very essential for us to make meaning out of our real lives, especially during the hard and trying times.

It all triggered by the attitude of our daily life. Our attitude is like the steering of the vehicle that we drive, and the vehicle moves forward in the direction where we turn the steering. If we have the correct destination and right route map in life, undoubtedly, it is going to be a pleasant and remarkable ride to be cherished always.

The year 2020 is very different compared to the years of the past. These days we witness lots of activities and read the information that is not uplifting our lives and souls. We listen now more than ever before the news about illness, death, division, discord, hatred, vengeance, destruction, etc. We breathe the polluted air of hostility based on color, creed, politics, personal choices, and preferences. We are tired and exhausted, looking for positive changes that would bring newness and freshness. We are certainly struggling to deal with our daily lives in a broken world without ourselves being broken!

It is here we need to take a reality check of our own perspective and attitude. Our expectations and experiences color our attitude and perspective; our attitude generates our motivation, leading us to particular actions that create our total destiny. Our destiny is drawn by the sum total of our life’s productivity, creativity, and usability consisting of our everyday living.

However, in real life, it is not always the case. There is a gap between the real and the ideal. Most of the time, with some exceptions, we experience this gap bigger and broader due to the type of speckles that we wear every day. The only way to make the gap narrower and narrower is by changing our attitudes. I have heard people saying, “I changed my attitudes that changed my life.” It is very true in real life. If we can see the cup half full rather than half empty, then our life is going to be happy and prosperous. It is hard to build up that kind of positive attitude amidst hate, chaos, confusion, riots, vengeance, and violence. These negative experiences are part of our daily life today, and they may stick with us for a while. In the midst of chaotic situations, only positive attitudes can only help and deliver us from greater dangers. We know that; every situation will pass one day, and this too! But we are not sure when that will be. It may be useful to have some level of uncertainty for the sake of our own sanity. We have seen “bees,” they are small creatures of God that fly around, making honey for us to make our life sweet. They have the instinct and discernment not to take honey from the harmful flowers, though good and bad flowers with honey are available in nature. Although they are small, they are wise enough to differentiate the bad from the good. Are we not higher than them? We are the best of God’s handiwork and the Crown of Creation.

Have you ever seen a bee sitting on a bag of trash? They always look for sweet flowers, not even harmful flowers. It is flys that sits on trash bags, not bees! We always have opportunities in real life to make our options. The fundamental option that you and I have to make is whether we want to be a bee or a fly in our real life! Both of them can fly around, but what makes them different is what they are looking for in their life. What matters most is not where we come from, but where we are going and what we are looking for in this lifetime! I made my option today to be a bee, and how about you???

  1. Being a bee while living around a lot of flies is the most important challenge of this century. When all the flies show us the path of negativity and bad lifestyles, only god can guide us to lead the life if a bee looking for goodness and positivity.
